At Walnut Creek Organic Ranch we offer the finest organic grass-fed beef for your table. Our cattle live their entire lives on our ranch. They are born and raised here and some of them are selected to become our future mother cows so that we continue the genetics from our past generations. We select for ability to produce tender, flavorful beef on grass alone, for their natural health, their gentle nature and their natural mothering ability. We believe in taking care of our part of God's creation from the soil, to the water, to the vegetation, to the animals and the wildlife that live here. We grew to understand nature's way and have been following the basic rules for good stewardship. Walnut Creek Organic Ranch is in harmony with nature providing the finest food for the health conscious. We have never used chemicals, pesticides, commercial fertilizers, growth hormones or prophylactic antibiotics, nor have we ever fed animal by-products to our livestock. Our cattle maintain good health and resistance to disease without the use of medications or vaccinations of any kind. We are convinced that stress is a major factor of illness and the stress free environment that our ranch provides is a major factor in the health of our animals. Although we have used organic practices since 1973, we did not become certified organic until 1995 upon the onset of the new emerging organic market. After grazing and having a few licks of natural mineral salt, and visiting the water tank their next stop is a back and head rub in the Cedar trees for an application of the natural insect repellant that Cedar provides. Our cattle enjoy the shade provided by our various deciduous trees during the summer and cedar tree shelterbelts during the winter. They bed on baled wheat and oat straw that we have prepared. We utilize rotational grazing. Our cattle are moved frequently from pasture to pasture on an as needed basis. We have developed our pastures in a configuration that allows us to just open a gate and the cattle can move stress free to a fresh pasture that has had rest and opportunity to grow. All of our pastures provide access to mineral-rich, deep well water pumped by our windmills. We do not feed grain to finish our beef. Our cattle are finished naturally on a diverse diet of lush, native grasses, which are enhanced by naturally occurring native herbs. They also have access to protein-rich alfalfa. You will enjoy the protective benefits of the nutrients grass fed beef provides. Research indicates that grass-fed beef is a wonderful natural source of Omega 3, Vitamin E, CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) and beta-carotene. The incidence of CLA in pasture-raised beef is from 3 to 5 times greater than grain fed beef. You will also savor the distinguishable clear, clean after-taste in your mouth. There is no greasy after taste with grass-fed beef as noticed in grain fed beef. Yes, there is a difference. Some note the taste is like beef that they remember in their childhood, "lovely, so my kids will view it as comfort food" (statement from Denise in California) Our beef is processed and packaged under USDA specifications. We make every effort to decrease the stress associated with the short trip to the processing plant. We take two or three along for the ride so the one chosen doesn't have to make the ride alone. We arrange to have the processing to occur upon arrival to minimize the stress that compromises the tenderness of the beef. We also raise certified organic hard red winter wheat, oats, alfalfa, and sweet clover to build our soil and provide food for our honeybees. We have been blessed to care for a most beautiful ranch on Walnut Creek located on the prairie of South Central Nebraska. We believe that eating as close to nature as possible is the key to good health. We are pleased to offer our foods to those who believe as we do in a healthy lifestyle. Our USDA inspected, hormone and antibiotic free grass fed Angus beef is available in whole, halves, split halves or by the cut for shipment throughout the USA using FedEx. You may also purchase our beef at our ranch when you visit us. We are located about 60 miles south of Grand Island and Interstate 80 or 100 miles southwest of Lincoln, Nebraska. |
